About Us: Corpo Freudiano Vancouver
Following our desire, the Lacan Salon declares itself a School of Psychoanalysis, committed to the transmission of psychoanalysis and the formation of analysts in Vancouver. We are sustained by the works of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan, and associated with Corpo Freudiano, a psychoanalytic school founded in 1994 in Brazil.
The unconscious speaks and can be listened to. We aim to produce a psychoanalytic style that privileges singularity, criticality, community work, subjective implication and rigorous articulation of theory, without being orthodox. Concerned with the socio-political state of our world, we converse with the arts, philosophy, critical theory, and poetic discourses. Through the specificity of psychoanalytic praxis, we intervene into fields such as counselling, mental health discourse, psychiatry, therapeutic companionship, group therapy, etc.
The Lacan Salon was the first English-speaking group in Canada dedicated to the study of Lacanian psychoanalysis and is situated in Vancouver, on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. Since 2007, the Salon has been a unique space of confluence between the academy, the clinic, the artistic community, and the community at large, enriching the intellectual life of Vancouver, through the discussion of Jacques Lacan’s Seminars and their connection to relevant contemporary issues.
As of March 2, 2025, we became a section of Corpo Freudiano, a psychoanalytic school founded in 1994 in Rio de Janeiro and that currently counts about 700 members within various regions of Brazil, the US and France, which centers its efforts on the formation of analysts by reading Lacan in constant dialogue with Freud’s work.
While we are associated with Corpo Freudiano and influenced by their style, we are autonomous and conduct our work independently. Since spring 2024, we began to meet with Corpo Freudiano, and we will continue working with them.
We aim to offer a companionship in the analytic permanent formation, an asylum or refuge from cultural desolation, standing up against discourses and practices that oppress by forcing consensus and the terror of mastery. We welcome the possibilities of failing, not knowing, being a stranger and trusting poeisis.
